CEO, National HealthCare Corporation
After an eight-year tenure as Lipscomb University’s 16th president, Steve Flatt embarked upon a new challenge in a new industry. In June 2005, he accepted an invitation to become National HealthCare Corporation’s (NHC) senior vice president of development. On January 1, 2009, Flatt was named president of NHC, and effective January 1, 2017, he became the fourth CEO in NHC’s 45-year history.
Founded in 1971, NHC is the oldest publicly traded senior care company in the country. Currently, NHC operates 75 skilled nursing facilities, 27 assisted living and independent living communities, 36 home health agencies, and several ancillary services. Overall, NHC has operations in 10 states and employs over 13,000 partners. In 2014, NHC was named by Forbes as “one of America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies.”
Flatt serves on the executive committee of the Council for Post Acute Care (CPAC) and the board of directors of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. In 2013, Flatt was in the inaugural class of the Nashville Health Care Council Fellows Program and was chosen by The Nashville Business Journal as one of Nashville’s “Health Care Heroes.”
